Bangladesh National Party (BNP) is observing the 41st death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the party, with various programmes across the country today.

The party, with its front and associate organizations, has chalked out a 10-day programme to observe the death anniversary, which will continue until June 7.

As part of the death anniversary observance programmes, the BNP arranged a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital on Sunday.

 

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presided over the discussion, and the party’s standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was present as chief guest.

Discussion meetings, seminars, photo exhibitions, wearing black badges, publishing posters and supplements in newspapers, and distributing food and relief materials to the poor are all part of the 10-day programme.

On May 30, 1981, Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was assassinated at Chittagong Circuit House by a group of disgruntled army officers.

In observance of the day, black flags are being hoisted and party flags kept at half-mast atop the offices of the party and its associate bodies, including Nayapaltan headquarters.

Besides, BNP senior leaders, led by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, placed wreaths at Zia’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the morning.

The party leaders of Dhaka south and north city units will distribute food and relief materials among the destitute in different parts of the city.

 

The party’s all district, city, and thana units will also observe the day with various programmes, including discussions to be attended by BNP senior leaders.
